| Milford Haven coastguard
received a Mayday message from a yacht and immediately
paged the lifeboat crew to assist. The crew
arrived at station after pulling themselves
out of bed in the early hours of the morning.
A yacht that was leaving the harbour had suffered
a sudden engine failure in the harbour mouth,
and had radioed to the coastguard for assistance
informing them it was a mayday situation. The
lifeboat launched and was immediatly on scene,
a tow line was passed and the boat was towed
back into the harbour. A quick look at the engine
discovered the problem to be dirty fuel or an
air lock in the fuel line. The problem was soon
sorted and the yacht decided to leave the harbour
again under the guidance of the lifeboat. Aberystwyth
lifeboat escorted the Yacht out the harbour
and over the bar to make it sure it was ok.
The boat then returned to station. |

as she was a long way out and had been for some
time. A number of people approached some crew
members that were around the station and informed
them that they were concerned. The crew members
phoned the Lifeboat operations manager (formerly
Hon Sec) and received permission to launch the
boat to go and check on the casualty. The pagers
were set off and a crew assembled, the lifeboat
launched, and made its way to just off south
beach. The crew on the lifeboat were then informed
that the person had made it safely to the beach.
The lifeboat did a quick search of the area

The Llifeboat was
launched to go to the assistance of a dinghy
that was being blown out to sea with one occupant
onboard. The lifeboat launched and made full
speed southwards to Llanrhystud where the reported
casualty was. Whilst the lifeboat was on its
way, the father of the casualty's occupant attempted
to rescue his daughter in his own dinghy but
was soon also in trouble and capsized his dinghy.
A kingfisher speedboat that was in the area
saw what was happening and went to lend assistance.
Unable to right the dinghy the boat was taken
in tow capsized, after a while the speedboat
ran out of petrol! The lifeboat then arrived
on scene and discovered the original casualty
a Nicola Berry from South Wednesbury had made
it safely to shore. The Lifeboat then towed
the broken down speedboat and dinghy to shore.
The dinghy was anchored and released from its
tow as it was causing problems for the speedboat.
After the speedboat and its owner an Anthony
Smith were safely landed on the shore, the lifeboat
returned to Mr Glyn Berrys dinghy and safely
landed that on the shore too.
On the way back to the station the lifeboat
was asked to assist a 36' Yacht Andromeda and
its occupants Dave and Gemma jones and family
as their engine had started to overheat and
the boats sails had been ripped in the strong
gusts. The Yacht was 1 and a half miles NW of
the harbour entrance. The lifeboat arrived on
scene and escorted the yacht all the way back
to the harbour where the lifeboat returned to

the Deputy Divisional Inspector (DDI)Rob Atkinson
and Deputy Divisional Engineer (DDE) Simon Hayes,
the lifeboat was asked to go to the assistance of
a inflatable Dinghy with two persons on board which
had apparently started to go Flat! The lifeboat

Beach Aberystwyth, there were a number of inflatable
craft. The coastguard mobile unit on scene indicated
that the occupants of the boat had made there way
to shore and were safe. The lifeboat and crew checked
out the other craft to make sure no one else had
any problem and then carried on with its exercise.
The lifeboat was later asked to tow in a raft that
had been left on the beach from a weekend raft race.
The raft had been 'picked up' by the high tide and

in three rescues. The University sailing club were
holding a sailing regatta, when their rescue boat
suffered an engine failure and asked for assistance
from the lifeboat. The small rib was then towed

that a sailing dinghy had capsized. The lifeboat
made its way to the capsized craft which had righted
itself and capsized again. Once on scene the lifeboat
assisted the craft and then escorted it back to
the harbour. Where once again they were asked to
go and escort in the remaining sailing dinghys that
were returning to harbour, one of which had just
capsized and righted itself. Once all the dinghys
were back in harbour, the lifeboat returned to station
for a crew change. After the crew change the lifeboat
proceeded to leaved the harbour on exercise when
one of the sailing dinghys in the harbour lost all
its rigging and was unable to manouevere. The lifeboat
then assisted the craft to its slipway, after this
the lifeboat carried on out to sea to carry on with

| An elderly lady from a
local retirement home in Clarach had been missing
for some time, when it was decided to extend the
search area. Aberystwyth inshore lifeboat crew were
paged and the boat launched. The boat was asked
to search an area up the Rheidol river, which runs
into Aberystwyth harbour. High tide was at 08.45
and so there was sufficient water in the river to
allow the lifeboat to make a slow search up the
river. Coastguard teams from Aberystwyth and Borth
were also searching. A rescue helicopter from RAF
Valley also carried out a shoreline search from
Tan-y-Blwch beach northwards. Milford Haven coastguard
informed all search teams that the casualty had
been found by the police and that all units were
to stand down. The lifeboat then returned to station
where it was refuelled and ready for service. Click

| A new trawler built by
the Leri boat Yard, was out on its maiden trip testing
a few things. During this voyage the boat suffered
serious problems with its Prop Shaft. The 24m, 200
ton vessel "Vanquish" requested assistance
from Aberystwyth Marina, and was towed back to Aberystwyth.
The tide meant that the she had to remain outside
untill the high tide later in the day. Aberystwyth
Lifeboat was requested to assist and standby as
it was towed into harbour later that day - possible
risk of going aground and during berthing in the
harbour. Also to assist with the mooring of the
boat. The Lifeboat launched and escorted the tow
into the harbour helping to position the large boat
along st Davids wharf by pushing at the stern and
bow of the boat as requested. The shore crew that
had also assembled helped with the mooring and tieing
up of the boat. MORE

capsized and were having difficulty righting themselves
and making there way back to shore. One of the windsurfers
was having difficulty and floating out to sea, another
windsurfer went to offer assistance and at this
point the crew decided to launch the lifeboat and
go and check if the windsurfer required assistance.
With only a few crew about, the pagers were set
off. The boat was very quickly launched, and went
to the scene. On arrival the Windsurfer informed
the crew that his sail was damaged and he was unable
